Apr 20, 2016 WORLD RECYCLING WEEK - Day Three WORLD RECYCLING WEEK - DAY THREE SCHOOL OF JUNK! As well as having two shops full of recycled treasures we also have our own famous sewing school! Not only do we aim to teach people to sew but we also try to educate people on how doing your little bit can have a massive impact. We have done many social projects with the likes of Oxfam, Recycle for Greater Manchester, Creative Support plus free Easter workshops to educate people on how the recycling process works. We try to encourage people not to throw their un-wanted textiles in to landfill but to Up cycle them or donate them to charity. During summer we put on free sewing workshops outside our shop at festivals (Glastonbury/ Secret Garden / Shambala / Green Man / Womad / Boomtown) where we help people make festival outfits from recycled fabrics and broken jewellery! Our School of Junk boasts from a wide range of sewing courses from complete beginners courses to experiences sewers. By the end, we hope that people start to look at clothing in a different light and see ways in which they can change/ fix their clothes instead of just replacing them.
